Chair's Honor Reception W16
On February 3rd, the Department of Economics held it's Annual Chair's Honor Reception to recognize Economics, Finance and Public Management students who have achieved a cumulative average or semester average of 80% or higher. It was a great turn out of both faculty and students. We would like to congratulate these students once again, and would like to share some pictures from the event.
Finance Team Places 1st in JDC Central 2016
JDC Central is Central is Canada’s largest business school competition, consisting of 700 delegates from 14 Canadian business schools across Ontario, Québec and the Maritimes. Delegates from each school compete across different categories including: debate, social, charity, sports and seven academic disciplines (Finance, Marketing, Business Strategy, International business, Accounting, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship).
Economics professor and PhD graduate recognized for research excellence
Professor Ross McKitrick and University of Guelph PhD Economics graduate Bin Hu received the honorable mention award for their paper, "Climatic Variations and the Market Value of Insurance Firms".
2015 Canadian Econometric Study Group Meetings
The Department of Economics and Finance and College of Business and Economics are hosting the 32nd Meeting of Canadian Econometric Study Group at the University of Guelph from September 25-27, 2015. The conference theme is the "Development and Economic Application of Flexible and Non-linear Econometric Models" and the invited keynote speakers are Professor Don Andrews (Yale University) and Professor Qi Li (Texas A&M University and formerly University of Guelph).
Sept. 17th: Professor Ross McKitrick Appointed Research Chair of Policy Center for January 2016
Starting January 2016, Professor Ross McKitrick of the Economics and Finance department, will be taking on the position of Research Chair of Energy, Ecology and Prosperity at the Frontier Centre for Public Policy.
May 5: Economics GTA Esmond Lun receives Teaching Excellence Award
The Department is pleased to announce that Esmond Lun has been selected as the recipient of the 2015 College of Business and Economics Graduate Teaching Assistant Teaching Excellence Award. This award honours the outstanding contribution made by a graduate teaching assistant to undergraduate or graduate education.
