Apr. 16: Economics Professor Rene Kirkegaard to Receive Canada Research Chair Funding Renewal
The University of Guelph will receive nearly $2 million over five years from Industry Canada through renewal of two prestigious Canada Research Chairs, one being none other than Economics professor Rene Kirkegaard.
Rene Kirkegaard is a Tier 2 chair in risk management and regulation, with a research focus on studying behaviour during online contests and auctions such as eBay. Tier 2 chair holders are considered to be potential world leaders in their fields and receive $100,000 a year for five years.
Economics professor and associate dean Miana Plesca has obtained a grant from the Ontario Pay Equity Office to study salary discrepencies between men and women. Plesca will work with computer science adjunct professor Luiza Antonie, as well as Economics PhD student Jennifer Teng.
Economics Professor Ross McKitrick has recently been named an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute's Center for the Study of Science. The Cato Institute is a U.S.-based public policy research organization.
Research conducted by Economics and Finance PhD student Michael Batu is currently featured in an article for the University of Guelph's online publication at Guelph. In the article, Batu discusses the common practice among foreign workers of sending remittance money back home to their families abroad.
